Another piece of the Rainbow Reader puzzle falls into place in “Black: Secrets,” as we follow Ian and Kyle when they enter their Honour’s Program at university, making new friends and meeting new challenges along the way.

What begins as a fun new adventure with Ian and Kyle discovering their individual love and openly living together on campus and Ian revelling in the academic exchanges with his professors and other students, quickly takes a dramatic and emotionally challenging turn as they encounter a group of children who the Social Welfare system has let fall through the cracks of abuse and exploitation. These children are living on the streets in constant fear for not only where their next meal is coming from or where they will sleep tonight, but for their very survival.

After a confronting emotional epiphany and with the help of his supportive parents and his small band of friends, Ian sets about rescuing this group and putting plans in motion that will provide for their long term well-being.

A trip back to Hawaii sees Ian re-united with his first love Warren and his new life-partner, Georgie, sharing his experience with the children and being once again embraced and immersed by that part of Hawaiian culture which influence and shape his life from this point on.

While this was yet another emotional journey for me, I also found myself challenged on the grounds of my social awareness and responsibility to those in need of my help and support. And the author's notes on Hawaiian spiritual culture enabled me to look at the world around me from a fresh and more open perspective. All of this leaves me craving the next instalment in the Series (Brown: Reconnect).

Thank you again, Adam Stevens, for another work of well-crafted and emotionally engaging storytelling. I would urge you all to follow Adam's advice to "Read like you've never read before!" and enjoy your adventure following the Rainbow Reader series through from beginning to end. As he says, “The beginning is the best place to start.” I advise everyone to read the first in the Rainbow reader series, “Red: Awakening,” and learn the complete story from the beginning. It is a unique and original story that is quite emotionally addictive.
